Group NameCandace Parker was chosen to represent NBA2K22
DescriptionCandace Parker was recently featured on the cover of NBA2K22. The ex- Los Angeles Sparks teammate and coach, Lisa Leslie, paved the way when she was featured in Backyard Basketball in 2001. In this article, we'll look at how Leslie's inclusion helped and how her inclusion as the center of attention will lead to the cycle of exposure.

Candace Parker was chosen to represent NBA2K22. This marks the first time a woman's basketball player has won this distinction. Her Los Angeles Sparks mentor Lisa Leslie was the person who opened the door for women in basketball video games. Leslie was a featured player in Humungous Entertainment’s Backyard Basketball (2001), before the release of NBA2K2.

Sheryl Swoopes and Cynthia Cooper, Houston Comets star players, were not present during the 2001 WNBA season. Cooper is a two-time MVP, and four-time champion was forced to quit after the 2000 season. Cooper returned in 2003. Swoopes who was involved in those four championships, and was the league's MVP for the year, was not able to play in the 2001 season due to a torn ACL. After helping the Sparks achieve their first title in September 2001, Leslie won not only the 2001 MVP award but she was also named the Finals MVP. Backyard Basketball was released one month later, and Leslie was the only woman's actual player (Garnett was a male player).

Cooper and Swoopes are thought to be the first authentic faces of the WNBA However, it was Leslie who was the first face of the league for those who Backyard Basketball was geared towards and included me. Leslie was the first WNBA player that I heard of and helped me get interested in women's basketball.

My enthusiasm for the sport gradually increased from there. Following their national championships in 2004 for women's and male basketball, UConn Huskies were featured on the Sports Illustrated cover featuring Emeka Okafor. I was then an avid Sacramento Monarchs fan and watched their 2006 WNBA Finals against the Detroit Shock. Since watching Parker in the 2007 national championship game , which was won by her Tennessee Lady Volunteers, I have been very on top of women's basketball . I began covering the WNBA in 2012.
