NEW YORK (AP) — Tomas Nosek jumped on a loose puck to help the Vegas Golden Knights‘ open their trip with a victory.Nosek scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period and the surging Golden Knights beat the New York Islanders 3-2 on Wednesday night for their ninth win in 11 games.Oscar Lindberg’s shot from the top of the left circle was stopped by goalie Robin Lehner. However Authentic David Pastrnak Jersey , as the puck lay at the right side, neither Lehner nor defenseman Thomas Hickey immediately went for it, and Nosek put it in for his third 3:32 into the third.“I saw the puck was loose so I just tried to go under (Hickey’s) stick, and I think I hit that and the post and then put it in.” Nosek said. “It’s great to have a win like that on the road.”The play started with a turnover by defensemen Ryan Pulock in the corner and Vegas’ Ryan Carpenter got the puck to Lindberg.“It was a quick turnover and Lindy did a good job getting open and he got a good, quick shot, maybe surprised the goalie,” Carpenter said. “And then Nosek did a good job outworking that guy and winning the battle in front.”Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson also scored for the Golden Knights, who are 10-3-1 at home but improved to 8-11-0 on the road in the opener of a four-game trip. Marc-Andre Fleury, who made his 11th straight start, stopped 23 shots to take over the NHL victory lead with 18.Anthony Beauvillier and Adam Pelech scored for New York. The Islanders have lost six of eight (2-4-2). Robin Lehner finished with 14 saves to fall to 0-4-2 in his last seven appearances.“We played well in so many areas of the game but we gave them things that were a little bit unforced,” Islanders coach Barry Trotz said. “Turnovers cost us.”On Nosek’s go-ahead goal, Hickey said there was miscommunication between him and Lehner.“It’s on the both of us to communicate and get it out of harm or recover it,” he said.Pelech nearly tied it about three minutes later, but his shot rang off the goalpost.New York pulled Lehner for an extra skater with a little more than a minute remaining, but couldn’t get the equalizer.Vegas’ 17 shots on goal was a season-low, eclipsing the 21 they had in a 1-0 win at Philadelphia on Oct. 13.“We didn’t have a ton of shots Jake DeBrusk Jersey ,” Carpenter said. “Fleury made some big saves for us, we capitalized on some chances. Starting the road trip like this definitely feels good and gives us some confidence.”The Islanders failed to score on their lone power-play chance to fall to 1 for 28 over the last 12 games.Fleury made successive stops on Mathew Barzal in front about 6 1/2 minutes into the second period to keep the score tied 1-1.New York then went ahead when Barzal brought the puck up the left side on a rush, stopped and sent the puck to Pelech at the center point and the defenseman fired it in for his third with 8:41 left. Barzal got his second assist of the game and team-leading 22nd of the season. After a giveaway by Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy, Karlsson tied it 2-2 with a shot from the right circle for his 11th with 3:29 left in the middle period.Vegas went on the power play just 19 seconds into the game when the Islanders’ Casey Cizikas was whistled for cross-checking. The Golden Knights took advantage just 15 seconds later as Marchessault got a pass from defenseman Colin Miller in the right circle and beat Lehner up high from the dot for his 12th.Beauvillier tied it less than three minutes later. He took a pass from Johnny Boychuk in front and beat Fleury through the five-hole at 3:17 for his ninth.NOTES: The start of the third period was delayed about 15 minutes due to a lighting issue in the arena. … Karlsson has six goals and seven points in his last nine games. … Marchessault needs one point for 100 with the Golden Knights. … Lindberg’s assist on Nosek’s goal gave him five points in his last five games. … The teams conclude the season series at Vegas on Dec. 20. … The Islanders, who won both meetings last season in Vegas’ inaugural campaign, were the last team the Golden Knights had not beaten. … Beauvillier has eight goals and 10 points in his last 13 games. … Trotz was facing Vegas for the first time since leading Washington past the Golden Knights in five games in the Stanley Cup Final in June.UP NEXTGolden Knights: At New Jersey on Friday night.Islanders: Host the Detroit Red Wings at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday night. EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Willie Desjardins realizes the Los Angeles Kings have more than enough time to turn around their dismal start to the season. The interim head coach still wants his Kings to play as if their season and their jobs are on the line in early November.Desjardins ran an energetic practice Monday to begin his tenure with the Kings, who fired John Stevens and assistant coach Don Nachbaur on Sunday in a shakeup of the struggling club. Desjardins didn’t promise any magic solutions to the Kings’ woes, but he plans to impress urgency upon his new players.“I think the theme we had was that we can’t wait,” Desjardins said. “You only have so many years that you have a chance to win, and you’ve got to win now. The easy road would be to say that we can’t do it this season. You can’t afford to waste a season, because you never know what’s going to happen. It’s the same with me. I didn’t know if I would get another shot at the NHL, so this is my chance. I’ve got to make it work, and that’s the same message to the players.“You’ve got to find a way to make this season work. What exactly it is, we’ve got to find out.”Desjardins didn’t land his first NHL head coaching job until he was 57 years old, leading the Vancouver Canucks from 2014-17. After taking the young Canadian national team to Olympic bronze medals last February Womens Patrice Bergeron Jersey , he returned home to Medicine Hat, Alberta, and started a hockey school.General manager Rob Blake abruptly called him last week with the chance to take over the struggling Kings, who haven’t returned to the heights they reached during their Stanley Cup championship seasons in 2012 and 2014. Los Angeles still has a wealth of top-end NHL players, including defenseman Drew Doughty, captain Anze Kopitar, forward Jeff Carter and goalie Jonathan Quick, who is injured. After the Canucks fired him, Desjardins didn’t want to return to the NHL as an assistant coach. He was thrilled to get another chance to be a head coach with a team possessing as much talent as the Kings — even if his current contract only lasts until the end of this season.“Coming in here, it’s a great situation,” Desjardins said. “I think there’s lots to work with. Sometimes you have situations where you don’t have much of a chance to be successful. They’ve got a lot of good pieces here. There’s some really quality people within this team, some high-end guys.”The Kings are in a funk at 4-8-1 heading into their Freeway Faceoff showdown with the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. Desjardins said he can’t immediately shake up the Kings’ playing style, so he will lean on assistant coach Dave Lowry as he attempts to get better results from the same players and largely the same schemes used under Stevens for now.“It’s hard, because one of the big things you need from players and coaches, you’ve got to have some trust,” Desjardins said. “And trust is gained over time Youth Brandon Carlo Jersey , but we don’t have time for that. You’ve got to trust each other right now. That’s harder to do, but we’ve got to do it.”Blake sharply criticized his players’ competitiveness and determination while firing Stevens. The veteran Kings didn’t disagree with their boss after their first workout under Desjardins.“It’s rather apparent that you can’t be successful in this league, or in life in general, if you don’t have the emotion and the passion,” Kings defenseman Alec Martinez said. “That’s what we’ve learned this week.”Carter was particularly dismayed by the players’ role in the departure of Stevens, who also was his coach in Philadelphia before Stevens was fired during the 2008-09 season.“I think the world of him,” Carter said of Stevens. “A lot of guys in here do. I guess that needs to be a big wakeup call for everybody in this room that we need to get our act together. We haven’t played good enough hockey, that’s the bottom line. It’s compete. It’s energy. It’s everybody doing their job.”Desjardins doesn’t expect to fix everything quickly, but he has the winter to work on it. His family is staying in Alberta for now, so Desjardins plans to devote pretty much every waking hour to his work — and there is plenty to work on.The Kings are the NHL’s lowest-scoring team with 28 goals in their 13 games, with meager shot creation and an inconsistent power play. They’re also not playing up their traditional defensive standards, allowing 45 goals after finishing last season as the NHL’s stingiest team.“It means we’re not getting the job done, and that’s the disappointing part,” Los Angeles defenseman Dion Phaneuf said. “Ultimately it’s on us as players. When a change is made, it’s not about the coaching staff. It’s about us not getting the job done.”
