The players that made the Arks Layer fan launcher that's allowed people to cheap PSO2 Meseta play the JP version, for the last 8 years, have now added support for updating/patching that the NA PSO2 by using their launcher. This avoids many of the problems that updating through the Windows Store launcher does. Presently, it still requires the first 11gb download from the Windows Store, but they're working to determine if they can bypass the Windows Store entirely. So, it appears using a workaround to skip the NA launcher, and only launching Phantasy Star Online 2 stand, makes the horrible lobby lag vanish almost completely. This will, but make you not able to patch the normal way, so you'll have to use the aforementioned Arks Layer launcher instead to spot Phantasy Star Online 2 (which is probably the safer bet at this stage anyway).

This is like a night and day difference of 60+ FPS with almost no stutter. This seems to confirm that it's not Phantasy Star Online 2 causing the reception lag, which something's seriously wrong with SEGA's launcher for the NA version.According to a single user, there's an -optimize flag that the launcher passes to pso2.exe that's destroying I/O performance and causing the huge frame drops at the lobbies. Will update again when more information is available. SEGA stated they won't have any information/fixes about the rest of the stuff. Meanwhile, the Arks Layer has already fixed lots of the install issues and is going to attempt and upgrade their launcher with a solution ASAP. Pays to be agile in a situation such as this.

I'm honestly baffled because this NA release is only occurring 8 decades later because of someone in Microsoft clearly having a soft spot for PSO, but nevertheless they do not appear to have done any QA whatsoever to make certain that Phantasy Star Online 2 actually installs/launches correctly for the vast majority of users. It is like they put all their enthusiasm into announcing Phantasy Star Online 2 and not one into making sure it really works. The Japanese version for decades and I have played, and installing/uninstalling/translating through the Arks Layer launcher is idiot-proof, painless and automated this point. There's no reason.

More confusing still is why they decided to use the old Microsoft Store as opposed to this brand new Xbox service they have been pushing so hard on Windows 10 (which in my experience is 100x better). Getting it to work in my sister's PC has been a complete nightmare, although I ran to no issues that were install on my own machine. It is a super coop action combat game with a great deal of charm and content. At its best, the boss fights give an Monster Hunter-ish vibe off.

I really want Phantasy Star Online 2 to succeed over here. The base combat is so much fun if you enjoy action games such as DMC or Dragon Hunter, and with no abortion which has been Phantasy Star Universe, PSO2 is really an amazing, well-crafted game using a ton of things to do. They have dropped with such a botched install process. I imagine a lot of possible players will just throw up their hands and not bother with all the troubleshooting. Not to mention there's been nearly 0 advertisements since the large announcement, which can be odd. I really don't know when this is more Sega's mistake or Microsoft's, but pso2 sales somebody's been completely asleep at the wheel.
